Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns), by Mindy Kaling

Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) - Mindy Kaling

This book was everything I'd hoped it would be: funny, chiefly, but also warm, not what I'd call "inspirational" but definitely...reassuring? Comforting? Its content is eclectic, ranging from memoir-ish to lists and ruminations. I could hear her voice--I mean her actual, physical voice--as I read it very easily. There was so much I identified with in how she discusses her friendships and her love of comedy, the references she makes, writing, even the crazy "revenge fantasies" she entertains while working out (gotta try that one!).

My favorite bit, hands down, is her discussion of romantic comedies and how she approaches them the same way she does Science Fiction. She follows this with a list of the types of women you see in RomComs that don't actually exist. BUT she doesn't disparage the genre exactly or crap on those, like herself, who enjoy it.
