Temper - Beth Bachmann

I had to read this book in many short sittings due to its striking intensity and ability to disturb. The poems are razor-sharp and manage to deconstruct the sorts of images most of us experience via popular culture--forensics and crime shows, for instance--without reproducing the spectacle. At first I thought there would be some sort of coherent narrative and was glad the book went elsewhere. The language and images are consistently startling.
